2023 Ethiopia Trip

Vinton Smith, a dairy sales representative with Elanco Animal Health from Gettysburg, PA, will be traveling to Ethiopia for a dairy focused mission trip February 1 – 16 to provide dairy farm management training to help improve milk production and increase availability of safe and nutritious dairy products.  Many dairy farmers in Ethiopia struggle with very low milk production, contributing to a lack of food availability for millions of people. He will primarily be working with one relatively large dairy farm (20 cows) that also processes their milk into packaged milk, yogurt and cheese for people in their community. The farm also collects milk from many small-holder dairy farmers and will serve as a “model farm,” showing and teaching hundreds of other farmers how they too can improve animal health and productivity on their farms. While his focus on the ground will be helping dairy farmers and their cows, his overarching objective is to help improve food security and alleviate hunger in impoverished communities.

He is working through Catholic Relief Services and the US-AID Farmer-to-Farmer program. You can learn more about their work here: https://farmertofarmer.crs.org/   You can also follow along with Vinton on this journey through:
